Reconsider the meaning of home

How often do we make our homes a sanctuary to recharge ourselves or a space to not race through life? One thing that being diagnosed with cancer twice changed in me is being more present and rediscover the meaning of home. Indulge in the pleasure of family time and create memories I’ll cherish. Or Simply take a step further in getting to know myself better. This year, let’s set an intention to pace slowly through life. Haven’t we been running long enough?

Let’s make our own little everyday rituals that define our time at home – of getting up half an hour early to enjoy the morning tea or squeezing in a light walk, of not rushing through a shower, of winding down with book, journal and candles (and not Netflix) of making sure we are creating a life we all deserve.

Its moments like these that help us focus on what’s truly important and cutting back on things that are unnecessary. That helps us cut off the chaos of the world and connect with ourselves on a more meaningful level. The world today has become a cocktail of things to do, consume, experience – and we rush to have it all out of fear of losing out. But losing out on those experiences can be calming too. A kind of Sükoon, we have all been wanting and not able to experience because of the mechanical life we have come to be a part of unknowingly.

We forget how to simply be ourselves without social media, without the outdoor noise. Dolce far niente doesn’t have to be a phrase for whatsapp status but doing what needs to be done and leaving room for ourselves everyday. I strongly believe that slowing down in life mentally is going to have a ripple effect outside too. The buddhist concept of “oneness of self and environment” when your mind is tranquil and joyful , the world is too … when your mind is filled with chaos , the world appears chaotic too.

The year 2023 and beyond let’s make our home a haven of joy and self love.

My list of things to shop:
1. Candles: my favourite is Saba and Alama from Sükoon
2. Books: my book this month is- Less is lost
3. Green Tea – my favourite is Kahwa, mint and camomile
4. Flowers: once a week fresh Lillies
5. Cashmere blanket: I bought them from my travels to Europe

My list of things to keep handy at all times:
1. Gratitude for the present moment
2. Resilience for what I cannot change
3. Patience for what I know will take time
4. A book
5. Music
6. The power to say no when needed
7. A LONG hug
